Malaysia Time Zones
Malaysia - Langkawi - Kuala Lumpur - Penang
Time zones in Malaysia follow the Malasysia Standard Time or MST. The Time zone of Malaysia is 8 hours ahead of the GMT or the Greenwich Mean Time. That means, when it is 8 o’ clock in the morning in Greenwich, in Malaysia it’s 4 o’ clock in the afternoon. Daylight saving time (DST) is the local time, which is adopted by many countries on a seasonal basis. In this system, the official local time is adjusted by an hour during summer, spring and autumn to obtain the DST. However, Malaysia Time does not operate according to the Daylight-Saving Time.
Malaysia’s time zones are set on the basis of the time in East Malaysia. This is followed in spite of the fact that about 80 percent of Malaysia’s population resides in West Malaysia. Some say that this is probably a conciliatory gesture towards East Malaysia.
