The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca ranks second in size, while the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca claims to be the world's largest mosque. Records say that French architect, Michel Pinseau designed the mosque. The constructions of the mosque started in he year 1980 and it was the order of the king Hassan II. It is a hige mosque covering almost 22.24 acres. However, a great portion of the Hassan II Mosque, Casablanca is built on the water of the ocean. There is a saying that the mosque reflects a line of Qur'an, "the throne of God was built on the water".

The ground floor of the mosque is totally made of glass and from all sides the water of the ocean can be seen.
