The Wydad Athletic Club is a famed Moroccan athletics club in Casablanca and is best known for its highly publicized and refined football team. The club's first segment which was a swimming segment was created on 8th May, 1937 and its president was Haj Mohamed Benjelloun. The other departments were created in the next consecutive years and the football team came up in 1939 created by Haj Tounsi alias Pere Jego. In Arabic Wydad indicates love and different historians draw different conclusions about its origin for example Lahrizi's book on Wydad volume 1.

This is a Moroccan athletic club representing the country to the rest of the world and it's credited with being a part of the Moroccan league and has won innumerable championships (16) since 1948 to 2006 with a few defeats as well. It's known to have won the Moroccan Cup for 9 times since 1970 to 2001 with 6 defeats. It was the proud winner of the CAF Champions League in the year 1992 and was the runner up in the same Cup in the year 1999. It bagged the CAF Cup Winners' Cup in the year 2002 and unfortunately finished as the runner up in the African Super Cup for the year 1992, 2002. In the year 1994 it was the winner of the Afro-Asian Club Championship and also won the Arab Champions League in 1989. It won the Arab Super Cup in 1990 and the Mohamed V Cup in 1979. It earned the glory of winning North African Championship thrice in a row between 1948 and 1950 and it grabbed the North African Cup as well in 1949.

Wydad Club in Casablanca is also known to be a staunch competitor of Raja Club in the national level of performance in football.
