Essaouira is one of the most attractive towns of Morocco. The city exudes undeniable
charm and lures tourists with its expansive sandy beaches, shuttered houses, art
galleries, wood workshops, fishermen and colorful boats.
There's not much Western-style nightlife in Essaouira, as the city is a bit
laidback and goes to sleep early. However, nightlife in Essaouira can be lively,
provided you know of the right places to look for a healthy dose of music, entertainment,
food and drinks at night. The town where Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley used to
hang out offers decent opportunities to unwind, eat and drink, and be merry.
Most of the bars feature music - as is obviously expected - by Jimi Hendrix,
Frank Zappa and other noted musicians of the Sixties. It is believed that Hendrix's
great work "Castles Made of Sand" was written about Essaouira. For
enjoying the nightlife in Essaouira you can visit a few bars in Place Prince
Moulay Hassan which serve alcoholic drinks. The Piano Bar in the Sofitel Mogador
on Avenue Mohamed V offers a variation on the "Lost in Translation"
theme. The waiters and waitresses serve drinks in casual dresses at the bars
and nightlife in Essaouira can be most interesting at times!
