Fez is the place where all the lovers of sacred music assemble and participate in the Fez World Sacred Music Festival. It is usually held from 1st June and it is a ten day affair. The event unfolds in Fez and it is one of the holiest cities of Morocco. Venues of the Fez World Sacred Music Festival This music festival is not held in one place but it spreads out to a number of places. The evening concerts are held at Bab Makina that is a reception court of a palace of a 14th century ruler, then there is also the Moorish Palace of Dar Bat'ha and the ruins of Volubilis The Event The event is a musical extravaganza and it features some of the world's most popular genres. These include the Sephardic, Sufi, Andean, Pakistani Ghazal chants, Zulu, Baroque Christian spiritual music, American gospel songs and also compositions from the Renaissance era. This event is celebrated on an annual basis and the main attraction remains the wide variety of musical performances. There are not only the local Sufi chants but there are the gypsy songs from Spain as well. The haunting quality of these songs is made all the fascinating due to the romantic setting of the event. It is here that musicians from all over the world get an opportunity to meet. The music ranges from Rajasthani to French and it is this aspect that is amazing to all devotional music lovers.
