The gate stands as an amazing feat of architecture. It has a strange striking beauty about it that is most attractive and impressive as well. It has got many openings through which one can see the houses and the lovely minarets of Fez. It is a good introduction to the beauties and the charm of Fez.

Upon entering you will notice that the color of the mosaics has changed. The exterior is in blue and this signifies Fez while the interior turns green. This is so because green signifies the color of Islam.
