About Bou Inania Medersa, Fez

Built over a period of 7 years starting 1350 by Sultan Bou Inan, this functional medersa is one of the 14th century residential colleges of the Kairaoueein University.

Talaa Kebira, Fez.

Entry

  -   Bou Inania Medersa is one of the few functional religious places open to non-Muslims. However the mosque just by the medersa is open to Muslims only.

  -   Cost of entry per adult is 10 Dirham.

Timings

  -   The medersa is open from 9 am to 7 pm all days of the week.

  -   It is closed on Friday and during prayer time everyday.

What to See

These are some of the most attractive architectural features of Bou Inania Medersa, Fez:

  -   The green-tile tower

  -   Intricate cedarwood carvings in geometrical motifs on the eaves and the upper patio walls

  -   A splendid view of Fez from the roof-top

  -   Carved-stucco mid-level walls

  -   Lower walls made of ceramic tiles and decorated with calligraphy in the Kufi script.

  -   Marble floor with a black border of ceramic tile having Arabic script on it
