Getting to Fez by Train

Morocco has a well-developed domestic train network, although it has no international train services; so if you are coming from somewhere in Morocco, taking a train to Fez is a good idea.

The state-run ONCF operates Moroccan train services to Fez and other big cites of northwestern Morocco, such as Tangier, Rabat, Meknes, Marrakech and Casablanca.

The night train arrives in Fez at approximately 2.11 am and departs at 2.45 am. You can buy tickets and reservations for train journeys, including sleeping accommodation two months in advance.

Fez has a single railway station called 'Fez' for passenger services. If you face any trouble, police are always there to help. The signs and displays at the station are in Arabic and French.

Do's and Don'ts for travelling by train:

  -   Smoking is prohibited on Moroccan trains.

  -   Buy tickets from authorized travel agents and train stations only. Payment at the ticket counter is only by cash.

  -   No tourist train travel passes are available. You can buy interrail passes but buying separate tickets would be a cheaper option.

  -   You can get special concessions for children, people under 60, people under 26 and families using special passes available at the station.

  -   You cannot make reservations from outside Morocco. You can reserve only for first class seats, sleepers and couchettes.

Train services to Fez are fairly regular.However, during festivals like Eid el-Fitr, Eid el-Adha and Ramadan, special schedules are made.
