Golf, a sport preferred by the elite, is considered to be the most stylish sport
in the world. The most elegant among various sports, it has gained enormous esteem
all over the world, and Marrakech is not far behind. Golf in Marrakech began sometime
in the late 19th century, when the Moroccan sultans adopted the sport and made
it popular.
Golf in Marrakech can be enormously enjoyed, what with verdant greens
against a backdrop of the Atlas Mountains. There are three golf courses in Marrakech,
and all are open to the public, provided there is an evidence of a handicap.
Marrakech Royal Golf Club, at BP 634, Ancienne Route de Ouarzazate, is 6,200
meters, and is an 18-hole par 72 course. Designed by the Pasha of Marrakech
in the 1920s, and frequently renovated since, this course is the best place
for Golf in Marrakech. Another notable thing about this course is that Winston
Churchill once played here.
The other two places where one can participate in the sport of Golf in Marrakech
are -
Club de la Palmeraie Golf Palace, designed by Robert Trent Jones Snr, and having
thousands of palm trees, seven lakes, and a Mauresque-style clubhouse in 1993,
this is 6,214 meters, and an 18-hole par 72 course.
Golf d'Amelkis, the newest of the city's courses, and supposedly the most striking,
is 6,657m, and an 18-hole par 72 course designed by CB Robinson, set with palm
groves and water traps.
To enjoy this sophisticated and elegant activity of Golf in Marrakech, the
best season is between October and May.
