Marrakech Popular Arts Festival
Morocco - Essaouira - Fez - Marrakech - Agadir
Visit the lively city of Marrakech during the Marrakech Popular Arts Festival and see even more popular sights and sounds of this unique town than it usually boasts. This popular Art Festival transforms the Djemaa el-Fna square and the surrounding location to an al-fresco venue featuring a wide spectrum of traditional folk arts from all over Morocco.
Here in Marrakech, there is never a dull moment as the city teems with its bustling population and lively celebration, sometimes inflicting a sensory overload, but during the summer Popular Arts Festival, Marrakech is more frenzied and alive than ever.
During this festival, the fun loving Moroccans and tourists throng at the town and make the already-packed streets even more crowded. Artists, craftsmen, vendors, musicians, acrobats, fire-swallowers and dancers hold performances in every corner of the city, with the ruined 16th-century Badi Palace as the centre of the action.
The Badi Palace that now stands ruined, as an unjustified reference to its glorious past was once the heart of the powerful Saadian Dynasty. The 'fantasia', a choreographed trick horse-riding spectacle is one of the most popular features of the Marrakech Popular Arts Festival and is held each evening in a field near the Bab Jdid just outside the city walls.
