Museum of Moroccan Arts (Dar Si Said) Marrakech
Morocco - Essaouira - Fez - Marrakech - Agadir
Initially the town house of Sidi Said, this building now contains the Museum of Moroccan Arts. The Dar Si Said Museum is based in a fort dating from the nineteenth century. This is quite an appealing Museum, not just for its exhibits, but also for the structural design and decoration of the house.
Here you will see the extremely ornamental cedar wood ceiling. In typical Islamic style, the museum is on 3 stories. This rooms open onto an inner court and backyard, through elaborate doors. All these are good examples of High and Anti Atlas craftsmanship.
The gardens are quite pleasing too. Here you will find pathways setting out in symmetrical patterns. These all lead to a roofed fountain. Amongst the interesting exhibits the masterpiece is a primitive wooden ancestor of the ferries’ wheel.
