Marrakech is one of the most important cities of Morocco. The city is famous for its architectural splendor and warm hospitality rendered by the locals. The Marrakech population, which is an indispensable part of the city, truly makes the place come alive. The people are as good and well mannered as the city. They distinctly showcase the culture of the city.

Marrakech is home to over 1 million people. Though unofficially the number is counted as near about two million. The population of the Berber community dominates the demography of Marrakech. As a matter of fact almost one-third of the population of Marrakech constitutes of several Berber tribes who originally hail from Riff and Atlas mountains. The other two-third of the population belongs to the Arabs. According to a study in 2002 55% of the population were urban dwellers compared to 35% in 1971 and 51% in 1994.

Most of the population in Marrakech is poor according to the European standards. But the gradual development in trade the standard of living is soaring high. The trade in Marrakech is flourishing fast as the Berbers, the traders by nature, are coming up fast. The total Marrakech population is a mixed lot of Arab, French, some Belgians, Berbers and some Tuareg.
