Goulimine Camel Fair Morocco

Morocco - Essaouira - Fez - Marrakech - Agadir
Despite all the hustle and bustle in its streets and marketplaces, there is this languorousness about Morocco that you will never fail to notice. Take for instance, the Goulimine Camel Fair, Morocco. There’s a flurry of activity here and the frenzied pace is sure to leave you breathless. But look at the camels over there, chewing and gazing at the distance with a faraway look in its eyes, totally oblivious to the surrounds and you will feel that time has actually come to a standstill.

About The Goulimine Camel Fair, Morocco

Goulimine is a little town at the edge of the Western Sahara. This is the site of several camel fairs all throughout the year. There is a Goulimine Camel Fair every Saturday, besides a huge annual Goulimine Camel Fair held in the month of June.

The yearly Goulimine Camel Fair, Morocco, one of the most famous of the Morocco fairs, attracts caravan dwellers and tribes like the Tuaregs, the Rguibat and the Fulanis from far flung areas in the Sahara like Niger and Chad.

The Morocco Goulimine Camel Fair is a colorful (noisy too, with the bleats, bellows, roars and groans of the hundreds of camels that are around) affair with the tribal also bringing in their hand-crafter wares to sell in the fair. You might just pounce upon a particularly unique piece, not to be found anywhere else in Morocco.

The Goulimine Camel Fair, Morocco is also the place where you can catch a glimpse of the legendary Guedra dance ritual. In this dance form, a woman dances to the rhythm of a drum made from a kitchen pot (also known as a guedra) with a belief that the dance would reflect surrendering oneself completely to God and seek Divine blessings. This ancient dance form with the slow, swaying movements of the dancer, the pounding of the drum and the chants of the onlookers, is known to bring on a trance-like atmosphere in the entire setting.

Morocco festivals & events are great opportunities to familiarize oneself with the unique customs and traditions of the indigenous tribes of Morocco and the Goulimine Camel Fair, Morocco is no different.
