The Rif Mountains, Morocco got its name from Arif, a Berber word, meaning countryside. The population of the Rif Mountains call themselves Imazighen. They are mostly Berbers, the indigenous people of Northwest Africa including the Aith Ouriaghel, Gzennaya, Galiya, Kebdana, Aith Said, Oulad Stut, Aith Bu Yahi, Aith Ulishk, Tafersit, Aith Amart, Bokoya, Mestassa, and Mtiwa.
In the Middle Ages the Morocco Rif Mountains was ruled by the Kingdom of Nekor. In the twentieth century the Rif Mountains, Morocco was under the famous Moroccan guerrilla leader Abd el-Krim El-Khattabi. The major cities of the Rif Mountains, Morocco are Nador, Al Hoceima, Azghenghan, Selwan, Ajdir, Chefchaouen, Morocco, Tawrirt, Taza and El Jebha.
The Rif Mountains, Morocco is beautiful with craggy limestone peaks and bright blue skies. It is a beautiful unspoilt land with enchanting valleys and gullies. It is spotted with some of the fabulous streams in this part of the country. It reminds of the Taurus Mountains of southern Spain.
