New Zealand goes film crazy during this annual series of film festivals, starting here in Auckland's Civic Theatre before playing main cities through to November. The features Auckland International Film Festival are as follows: - The festival is the perfect way to beat the winter blues and feed your mind. - It has become an important event on Auckland's annual event calendar. - The 28th festival is based at the Civic Theatre from 13 - 23 July 2006, and at Skycity Theatre, Academy Cinema and Village Skycity Queen Street from 13 - 30 July 2006. - The country has been thrown into the cinematic spotlight after its own starring role as the spectacular backdrop to Peter Jackson's Tolkien cinematic trilogy The Lord of the Rings, and the festival goes from strength to strength. - Originally founded in 1970 as part of the Auckland Festival, the event greeted the new millennium in rude health, returning to the newly refurbished Civic and annually attracting in the region of 85,000 festival-goers. - Besides, the festival spread its feelers across the whole country, with much of the program being seen at the Wellington Film Festival, followed by films touring other cities in both the North and South Islands.
