Features of Auckland Zoo Auckland Zoo has focused on providing its animals with the most natural habitats possible. Since the 1990s, this zoo has taken care of the breeding and conservation as well. In early 2004, an enterprising Asian elephant escaped by dropping a tree on an electric fence and took herself for a walk in the neighboring park. She was coaxed home after 45 minutes and the zoo's fences have been made elephant-proof since then. The features of Auckland Zoo include: - The primates' area comprises of sea lion and penguin shores. - The Pride lands section features lions, giraffes, zebra, springbok, rhino, and ostriches that range in savannah like grasslands, best exemplify this approach. - To catch a glimpse of New Zealand flora and fauna, spend time in the New Zealand Aviary, where you walk among the birds, and the Kiwi and Tuatara Nocturnal House, which are at opposite ends of the zoo.
