The Baptist Tabernacle in Auckland shares a special place with the political and social scenario of Auckland city of 1855. Started by a handful of local people the Baptist Tabernacle has grown both in its stature as well as helped people grow with it. The Church has a very holy aim- to spread the message of love and grace of the benevolent Lord Jesus throughout entire Auckland. The Church opened up with a sitting capacity of 200 which was increased to 500 and then to 1500. With the support of the people and by God's grace the Church was officially opened for the people on May 12th 1885. The Baptist Tabernacle rules the heart of Auckland. A Church of such stature demands a primal position and is appropriately located at the end of the Queen Street, which is the center of culmination of Auckland's business district and urban areas. - The architecture of the Baptist Tabernacle is a perfect example of the Victorian Classicism. The simplicity of the God's teachings seems to be reflected in the portico of the Church as well as the large Gallery Hall situated inside. - The Hall is very impressive. The spacious Hall is situated right at the end of the Preaching area and comprises of the pipe organ and a platform to address the visitors. The Baptist Tabernacle however does not have a pulpit. - The Congregation that attends the Church is of a mixed sort. Since the Church believes in the dictum of universal brotherhood people from all over the world settled in Auckland visit and pray together at The Baptist Tabernacle. The dress code is also not strict. People can come either in their formal attire or socially acceptable casual wear. - The Baptist Tabernacle in Auckland is dedicated to a large number of social activities. Its loyal dedication to the service of the people has resulted in the establishment of the Manurewa Children's Home. - The Baptist Tabernacle has also contributed greatly in the field of Education by laying down the founding stones for two superb colleges in Auckland, New Zealand. The New Zealand Baptist Theological College and the Bible College of New Zealand.
