Carter Group Heritage Week in Christchurch aims at celebrating the heritage buildings and related places in Christchurch by encouraging the people to take part in the series of social, cultural and educational events which depicts the value of City’s built heritage.

The theme of Carter Group Heritage Week 2006 was ‘Great times, Great people, Great places’ it offers the opportunity to celebrate Lyttelton and Banks Peninsula heritage.

Heritage Week is traditionally celebrated during the week before Labour Weekend, beginning and ending on a Friday. However in 2007, Heritage Week is being moved forward in the year to correspond with the UNESCO World Heritage Committee Meeting, and will run from 22 June to 1 July. In 1992, under the patronage of Christchurch City Council, the city first started celebrating its Heritage Week.
