Carter Group Heritage Week in Christchurch aims at celebrating the heritage
buildings and related places in Christchurch by encouraging the people to take
part in the series of social, cultural and educational events which depicts
the value of City’s built heritage.
What makes Christchurch truly unique is its cultural community and it includes
continuation of the natural physical elements and erected landmarks, of personal
memories and histories, of community attitudes and values.
Carter Group Heritage Week in Christchurch has individual themes which not
only makes the event interesting and innovative but also provides the platform
to focus on a particular aspect of the city and highlight it accordingly. The
theme of Carter Group Heritage Week 2006 was ‘Great times, Great people, Great
places’ it offers the opportunity to celebrate Lyttelton and Banks Peninsula
heritage.
Carter Group Heritage Week in Christchurch, New Zealand is funded by Christchurch
City Council with additional sponsorship from renowned sponsors, the Carter
Group, and The Community Trust. Carter Group Heritage Week in Christchurch is
vibrant multitudes of programs and activities comprising of open days, tours,
public lectures, workshops and exhibitions where people from all walks of life
love to participate. People of all age group and social strata assemble here
to enjoy the festive mood and spirit of the Carter Group Heritage Week. Some

Heritage Week is traditionally celebrated during the week before Labour Weekend,
beginning and ending on a Friday. However in 2007, Heritage Week is being moved
forward in the year to correspond with the UNESCO World Heritage Committee Meeting,
and will run from 22 June to 1 July. In 1992, under the patronage of Christchurch
City Council, the city first started celebrating its Heritage Week.
