The Yaldhurst Museum of Transport and Science was opened to public view in the year 1968.

The Museum was built on one of the grounds belonging New Zealand’s early colonial homesteads. From the time it was established, the Museum became the home to more than 100 odd exhibits. Apart from that the Museum also has a replica of a fire station, school house, agricultural hall, Penny arcade and military paraphernalia.

The historical Museum has an incredible collection of vintage transports. The collection includes cars, racing cars, motor cycles, fire engines, naval and military equipment, farm machineries and horse drawn carriages. The collection of horse drawn carriages is unique. It consists of the box cart, horse drawn drags, pony carts which were commonly in use in New Zealand in the early days.

Apart from the displays, the Yaldhurst Museum of Transport and Science also has tea rooms, gifts shops, and a library within its premises. For recreation the games can be tried at the Penny Arcade.

The Museum also arranges for a Car Show which draws a large amount of crowd. Some of the exhibits are displayed in their original condition and provides with glimpses in history.

There are some voluntary clubs and groups like The Spinners and Weavers Group and the Christchurch Dirt Burners off Road Model Car club who arranges and takes part in model car competitions on the outdoor tracks of the Museum.
