History of Edmonds Factory Garden in Christchurch

Edmonds Factory Garden in Christchurch was laid by Thomas Edmonds, who was known for manufacturing a popular brand of baking powder in 1923. The garden contained lawns, a lily pond, a rose garden and displays which changed every year and was founded around Thomas’ factory on Ferry Road. Many gardeners groomed this garden with planned flower-beds, lawns and plants till 1980s. Thereafter, specific areas were chosen for growing the plants including shrubs and dwarf conifers in the garden more naturally. However, a huge section of Edmonds Factory Garden in Christchurch was taken up by the City Council in 1991. Thereafter, the main building was razed to the ground with simultaneous additions of a rose garden and an oval garden. The factory inside Edmonds Factory Garden in Christchurch was demolished so that a petrol station could come up in its place.
