New Zealand - Auckland - Christchurch - Queenstown - Wellington
Day 2: Greymouth-Franz Josef
The journey begins with ride along the West Coast toward Hokitika, which is renowned for its haute cuisine and greenstone. The vestiges of gold rush that brought thousands to the area in the 1800s remain in the historic town of Ross, which we visit in the morning. At Franz Josef we take part in the half-day glacier hike, regarded as one of the world’s greatest glaciers. If you wish to take yourself higher, set off for a heli hike, which will take you to the top of the glacier. You can also indulge in kayaking on a local lake of this town.
Day 3: Franz Josef-Queenstown
You get to visit some of the beautiful lakes of New Zealand throughout the day. We drive past Fox, another town close to a glacier before getting off at Lake Matheson. It is called “the Mirror Lake” owing to its spendid reflection of the Southern Alps and Mt Cook. From verdant forests you move into huge plateaus as you get into the Central Otago region, renowned for its pip fruit and developing wine industry. We visit the serene Lake Hawea, and later Lake Wanaka. We take you to the world’s first commercial bungy site, 42m over the Kawerau River. We arrive in Queenstown which offers a wide range of activities.
Day 4: Queenstown
We explore this beautiful destination throughout the day.
Day 5: Queenstown-Dunedin
We depart from Queenstown and head for Dunedin “The Beer and Chocolate Capital of New Zealand.” It is famed for the Speights Brewery and Cadbury Factory, both of which offer spectacular tours and free samples. Don’t miss the Elm wildlife tour. We take you to the Otago Peninsula where you can interact with yellow-eyed penguins, seals and albatross.
Day 6: Dunedin-Tekapo
We arrive at the world’s steepest street. We take a stroll along the beach to see the Moeraki boulders in fascinating sizes and shapes. We get ready to arrive at the Mackenzie country, zooming past the Benmore dam, the largest dam in the Southern Hemisphere. You can catch amazing sights of Mt Cook during your journey. Tekapo is famous for the excellent church of the Good Shepherd.
Day 7: Tekapo-Christchurch
From the shores of Lake Tekapo we tour across the MacKenzie Country, covering Burke Pass on the foothills of the Southern Alps. We drive past the beautiful towns of Fairlie and Geraldine before passing through the Canterbury Plains, the largest area of flat land in New Zealand. We arrive at Christchurch in the afternoon where you are a treated to a wide variety of activities.
