The perception behind Caffe Roma was to set up a typically European styled coffee house that specialized in coffee, breakfast, brunch and lunch. First of all, an old structure was found, with wooden paneled walls, high ceilings, timber floors; two large stone open fire places that are lit in winter, leadlight windows, and a beautiful view out the windows over the Avon River.
Most surprisingly, almost ten years later, Duncan is the only one of the early owners left and still works in the café. Caffe Roma has a very loyal, regular customers and a fine status in all the areas it set out to set up.
Once you are here, you will love this place, especially in winter, when it's very cozy. Here you will also find some good reading material.
You may miss the salmon filo pastry which they used to have. But never mind! There are plenty of other yummy things. Not the cheapest place in town is Caffe Roma, Christchurch. However, frankly speaking, it’s also the ambiance for which even you would like to pay. Besides, coffee is generally excellent, the service is friendly, quick and professional. It would be better to grab a window seat which has a view of the Avon River and willow trees over the road.
