Jambalaya Festival that involves Rhythm, Dance and Carnival continues for three days and nights. This vibrant festival features workshops, band performances and shows ranging from hiphip to Gypsey, Carnivalesque Circus to Latin groove. Jambalaya Festival literally explores the different traits of music and dance (both indoor and outdoor). Interestingly, the Jambalaya Festival also showcases the myriad rhythms of Brazilian, Cuban, Maori and Pacific Island cultures. The director of Jambalaya Festival is Mr. Heidi Hughes. The festival is funded by the Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust, Creative NZ and other organizations. With the coming years the Jambalaya Festival with its colorful and artistic attributes is turning out to be a big success and a major part of the culture of Rotorua, New Zealand. Normally this festival is hosted at local venues including the Convention Centre, the Sportsdrome and so on. The Jambalaya Festival is a vivacious mix of workshops and performance for people of all abilities and ages. In fact the hosting of such an event is of great community benefit as a large number of indigenous people get the opportunity to involve them in the festival. The Jambalaya Festival features about one hundred and twenty workshops, eighteen teachers and performers coming from abroad, bands and DJs, dance parties and theatre shows lasting for four nights. The performers include awe-inspiring shows from the world-famed Salsa performers-Edie 'The Salsa Freak' and Al 'Liquid Silver' Espinoza from Los Angeles. Besides there are also Brazilian percussion maestro- Bira Reis, Conga player- Javier Fredes and Los Cabrones - a band of Melbourne and others. Finally an enormous street parade is held where the crowd is invited to join. People dress up in gay clothes and party merrily throughout the town. The Jambalaya Festival has gained popularity as it demonstrates the various themes and styles like those of Latin America and Pacific Island. Thus besides fun, the Jambalaya Festival is also enlightening as you can get to know a lot about the multi-cultural world.
