Oyster Bay Bluff Oyster & Southland Seafood Festival New Zealand

The Bluff Events Centre on Gore Street, Bluff, Southland, New Zealand holds the Oyster Bay Bluff Oyster & Southland Seafood Festival every year. The event showcases the rich and varied cuisine of New Zealand. It highlights the scrumptious delicacies of the southern island, New Zealand and the star of the event id the Bluff Oyster. Originally part of the Bluff Promotions Community Festival, The Oyster Bay Bluff Oyster & Southland Seafood Festival was deferred for two years due to an oyster ailment known as Bonamia. Bonamia affected he oysters of the region, restricting their consumption. Timely intervention from Tourism Southland and the Invercargill City Council rescued and resurrected the festival and reintroduced it with a fresh vigor. The Ascot Park Southern Seas Cabaret is one of the favorite programs held in this festival every year where the guests are served a luscious three course meal replete with the choicest seafood dishes and an entertainment extravaganza. The array also includes the best wines of the region, a variety of excellent cheese and other local specialties.

The opening ceremony of the Oyster Bay Bluff Oyster & Southland Seafood Festival is marked by the traditional carrying (piping in) of the oysters and a short speech by the mayor. Local bands and musicians keep the crowd enthralled throughout the duration of the festival. A number of fun events that involve cracking the oysters open and eating them keep the spirits up with the crowd cheering. The Oyster Sack Fashion and Inspirations of the Sea is a novel fashion show.

In 2007 The Oyster Bay Bluff Oyster & Southland Seafood Festival is scheduled to be held on 21st and 22nd April 2007. The Southern Seas Cabaret will be hosted by Ascot Park Hotel, Invercargill. Southland, New Zealand and the tickets are priced at $90. The event is likely to start at 7 pm. A formal evening dress code is prescribed.
