Located in the Hawke's Bay Region of North Island in New Zealand , the twin city of Napier as its only a mere twenty kilometers away from Hastings, the city is historic in nature and very congenial to the tourists. The city lacks any major landmarks and is adjacent to the picturesque Napier as a result of which it is not considered as one of the vital tourism centres of New Zealand. But if perceived with interest Hastings too has immense tourism potential. In 1931 the city underwent severe bad patch due to the Hawke's Bay Earthquake. But the city's Art Deco architectural theme have imparted a pompous look to its exterior which fascinates the people visiting here for the first time. With the end of twentieth century Hastings was moving down the line and suffering rapid economic recession. But a multi million dollar rejuvenation project Hastings is now evolving into one of the most important commercial hub and a mighty tourism spot. The chief attractions of the city are:
- The Splash Planet: An amusement park established amongst picturesque settings meant for family entertainment. Previously it was known as the Fantasyland , and has blend of wet and dry rides serving people of all ages. The park has thrilling rides for young, teens and children alike and consequently draws a large crowd every year especially during the summers - Heratunga Street: Perhaps the longest north-south arteries in Hastings, begins at Havelock North and ends at Russell Street. After Russell Street the road is a public footpath with tea garden and café seating area - Havelock North is another interesting village full of lovely orchards and vineyards - Bridge Pa : another important grape growing area and is considered one of the most crucial wine producing region of Hawke's Bay region. - Ocean Beach The city has good accommodation facilities and it is quite comfortable to move around in the city because the public transport system is excellent.
