The Cathedral, Waitomo Glowworm Caves have come into existence about thirty million years ago there are two strata to the low worm caves divided by a distance of 16 meter. The lower level consists of panels through which the stream pass, and the Cathedral.

The Cathedral is formed in the lower strata of the Cave, eighteen meter in height and is the largest cave in the vicinity. Due to the pure sound produced in the vicinity, famous singers and choirs love to perform here.

The Tomo is one of the marvels of Waitomo; it is a vertical rise of 16 meter of limestone shaft, which starts at the onset of an ancient waterfall, which flows till date very heavy during the rainfall. The vertical drop is dramatic and lighted carefully to show the crenated walls and the levels of limestone. The Tomo was the last formational feature of the cave with fine connection to the upper level and to the Waitomo River below.
