Skiing past the snowy slopes is a major turn on for many winter sports enthusiasts. Surrounded by Southern Alps, Queenstown and its adjacent cities and towns are home to a lot of snow covered mountains. Treble cone is a mountain near Wanaka city. With a summit altitude of 2088 meters and hard snow base, Treble cone is an ideal skifield. With Lake Wanaka almost at the foot hill, this mountain especially during winter becomes a favorite destination for ski lovers.
Treble cone has a ski area of approximately 550 hectors. Loved by fans for the steepness and provocative terrain, skiers from around the world come here. Various racing teams including world champion Austrian team have had skied down the slopes of the mountain. Though the ski field offers various levels of difficulties to the skiers, the terrain is however most suited for the advanced skiers. The field is in fact classified as 50% suited for the advanced skiers, 40% for the intermediate and only rest 10% is suited for the beginners.
The ski area from 2003 came under the new management of private investors. The new management in 2006, to make Treble cone more enjoyable to the beginners, groomed three super wide trails. A new four seater chairlift was also installed in the Saddle Basin to facilitate easy access to a terrain previously reached only by hiking.
Treble Cone Mountain is also home to Treble Cone Race Academy. The academy provides training to budding ski enthusiasts. The internationally certified professionals will teach you all the basics. So even if you are a novice, do not worry as training will be imparted from the grass root level.
Apart from skiing, Treble cone mountain authority lets you test your sculpture skills as well. Do not shy away from building a large sized Santa Clause or anything with ice. There is however no night skiing facility available. Treble cone is a great destination in Queenstown.
