St James Theatre

The St. James Theatre in Wellington, now known as the Westpac St. James Theatre was built in 1912 and is located in the heart of Wellington city. The theater has undergone massive renovation and at present it includes a ground floor café called “Jimmy” and also serves as the venue for Wellington’s Art Festival. It is also features shows of the National Ballet association and is also rented for several conferences and art shows.

Specialties: The St. James Theatre building is known for its beautiful Edwardian architecture. The café is also known to serve freshly baked rolls and cakes and at night, it turns into a noisy and rocking bar. The audience treats themselves with sparkling wines and champagnes after a theater show. The ticket counter is open from 9am to 530pm on weekdays and from 10am to 2pm on Saturdays. It is advisable that you make an advance booking at “Jimmy” if you are planning to visit the café during eventful showdays.

Eerie occurrences: Recently, many surreal and paranormal occurrences in the theatre house have increased its popularity. That theater staffs reported that they encountered ghosts of those who were formerly attached to the St. James Theatre. In the year 2005, a television show named the Ghost Hunt features the paranormal occurrences in the building.
