Bordered by the Eastbourne coastline, the harbour heads and Wellington city, Petone Foreshore, Wellington is a popular tourist spot in the summer months. The foreshore offers an enormous variety of leisure opportunities; the Esplanade is the expanse of road along the foreshore. From the Korokoro Reserve at its western end where State Highway 2 enters the Hutt Valley, to the Hikoikoi Reserve two kilometers east. Hikoikoi Reserve has a playground for the kids, and a number of courts for tennis, netball and basketball. During the summer, McEwan Park organizes festivals and fairs.
One of the landmark buildings on the Petone foreshore, Wellington is Petone Settlers Museum that rejoices the history of Petone as first organized European settlement in New Zealand. This museum also tells the story of Maori and houses particular exhibitions throughout the year.
The Petone foreshore, Wellington is the largest stretch of beach in the Wellington region and this sandy beach is an enchantment for picnic parties and the smoothly sloping ocean floor makes this beach perfect for family swimming. This beach is popular with water sport enthusiasts, with water skiers and jet skiers and local rowing and waterski clubs based on the foreshore. The waters are suitable to windsurfing and fishing is popular off the Petone Wharf.
