Plimmer Steps, Wellington connects Lambton Quay and Boulcott Street and it is the shortcut between two streets in Wellington. It looks like a multicolored path. The statue of John Plimmer (and his dog Fritz), looks fascinating and these steps were a shortcut from his house to the beach (Lambton Quay, at this time which is a main shopping street). The statue such as Plimmer Steps is a nice reminder, and are better than tombstones in cemeteries. The Plimmer Steps, Wellington commemorates local industrialist John Plimmer, who arrived at Wellington in 1841. One of his most successful early businesses was the purchase of the wreck "Inconstant", which he aground on the foreshore and transformed into a wharf warehouse. During the restoration of the Old Bank Arcade, the vestiges of the boat were dug up. The Plimmer steps are recognizable by a full-size bronze statue of Plimmer and his dog at the base. There are too many shops placed on the steps including a florist and Minnie Cooper, designer shoemaker of New Zealand. To recognize his contribution to the city of Wellington, Plimmer, in his later years, was awarded with the title "Father of Wellington" unofficially. Including Plimmer steps, Wellington, John Plimmer is memorized in several Wellington landmarks: Plimmer house on Boulcott St, the bell of the Inconstant, which hangs in St Alban's church at Pauatahanui, the settlement of Plimmerton.
