This Carnival is now granted an open-ended permission to operate as an annual event and may continue as a biennial event. It is possible if the organizers wish to avoid competing with the Arts Festival.
The Cuba Carnival, Wellington is a biennial street party, which is originated by impresario Chris Morley-Hall, and climaxing in a wild night parade along the whole of Cuba Street. The Cuba Carnival, Wellington attracts more than 100,000 people from allover the country as well as outside the country. No other event in New Zealand comprises such an exciting global mix of music, art and dance of free celebration. This Carnival emphasizes on participation, creativity and spontaneity, which helps to create the Carnival atmosphere on the streets. The Carnival takes place on unique Cuba Street, which has soul. This street is the pulse of the most innovative and charismatic retail, residential and entertainment area in Wellington.
