Wellington, the land that is considered to be the heart of New Zealand as far as art and culture are concerned, is a city that celebrates its association with tradition and heritage. One transport museum that is a very popular destination among many tourists, as well as the local Wellingtonians is the Wellington Cable Car Museum, Wellington. The Wellington Cable Car Museum, Wellington is the place where one can get to know about the vivid history of the century old vehicle called a cable-car. It displays an original cable car and trailer, and also houses the old winding equipment. The museum lets one explore some of the early history of Wellington, emphasizing on the benefits that the cable-car had on the development of the city. The Wellington Cable Car Museum, Wellington opened its doors to the public in December 2000, and is located at the Winding House, located beside the present Upland Road Station. This museum chronicles the beginning, and the consequent use of the Wellington Cable Car system, as well as the early development of the neighborhood of Kelburn. Entry to the Wellington Cable Car Museum, Wellington is free, and all people can enter freely. The museum remains open at the following hours – Monday to Friday 9.30am - 5pm (1 Nov to Easter 9.30am - 5.30pm) Weekends and public holidays 10am - 4.30pm The Wellington Cable Car Museum, Wellington remains closed on Christmas Day.
