Locally abbreviated to Mt Vic, Mount Victoria, Wellington is a prominent hill, rising to a staggering height of 196 meters, to the east of the centre of Wellington, New Zealand, and its associated suburb. A spur and Mount Albert lie to the south of Mount Victoria, Wellington. There is a ridge linking the two mountains. In the suburbs of Mount Victoria, Wellington you will find a mixture of residential and commercial activity on the western flank of the ridge above the southern end of the Wellington Central Business District. There are a number of popular tourist destinations adjoining the almost entirely residential suburbs like the Oriental Bay, Roseneath and Hataitai. Some popular places on the slopes of Mount Victoria, Wellington are; the Government House, the home of New Zealand's Governor-General, lying on the slopes of Mount Victoria to the south of the Basin Reserve, between Mount Victoria and Newtown. Wellington Hospital is situated behind it. On Mount Victoria's western flank, there is a Greek Orthodox Church, while the Basin Reserve sports stadium and National War Memorial lie near its foot. Wellington College and Wellington East Girls' College are two famous schools in the area. Getting to Mount Victoria, Wellington is no problem at all as the Hataitai Bus Tunnel and the Mount Victoria Tunnel (SH1) running beneath the ridge, provide excellent connectivity, connecting the central city with Wellington International Airport, Evans Bay and the Miramar Peninsula.
