“The ship was cheered, the harbour cleared, Merrily did we drop.” Samuel Taylor Coleridge Yes! Merriment is the feeling if you are a boarder of the ship from Porirua Harbor, Wellington or if you get down from the cruise at this harbor. Asked as to why merriment, you will surely explain the vivacity of this place along with the wonderful and fun filled tourist activities permitted here. Porirua Harbor is located 21km north of Wellington city. Originally named Parirua which translates to "twin flowings of the tide", this harbor is one of the must see spots in Wellington. There are two arms to the Porirua Harbor, Wellington namely Onepoto and Pauatahanui Inlet. Flowing from the Paremata bridges south and ends at the shoreline of Porirua City, Onepoto—this inlet is popular for allowing tourists several recreational activities. You can enjoy here with rowers, powerboats, small dinghies and personal water craft users. Sailing on the crystal clear water of the river has undoubtedly a unique charm. The second arm which stretches eastwards from the Paremata bridges past the suburb of Whitby and contains a world-class wetland reserve area is called Pauatahanui Inlet. The wetland reserve area is also named Paremata. Here too, travelers enjoy yachting, water skiing and general boating. The ski club is on the northern side of this arm.
