Wrights Hill Fortress Wellington

With a view to taking measures in order to protect the dwellers of New Zealand during the World War Two, Wright’s Hill Fortress, Wellington was constructed. Consisted of operation rooms, an underground network of tunnels and three gun emplacements this fortress is one of the must see spots for travelers coming all over the globe to visit Wellington.

Except Open Days, Wright’s Hill Fortress, Wellington remains closed. However, on Open Days a one hour long guided tour takes public and tourists through the underground channels of this fort which inevitably proves to be a fantastic experience. Moreover, the place is also famous for its grand 360 degree views from the summit, good bush walks and picnic spots.

Along with voluntary hours, thousands of dollars have been spent over the past ten years on the restoration work of Wright’s Hill Fortress, Wellington. The work includes restoring the radio room, repainting and completely rewiring the Fortress, waterproofing inside the tunnels, rebuilding wooden walls and digging out gun pit number one.
