Oman - Muscat - Salalah

Going by the History of Muscat , the Population of Muscat presents a heterogeneous mixture of various races settling down in the city due to its expansive trade with different countries of the world. As per the census of 2005, the Population of Muscat figured approximately about six lacs.

The Demography of Muscat presents an ethnic and religious mix of populace derived largely from the trading relations with different countries of the world. Globalization has encouraged the migration of a large number of business communities from around the world.

The Arabs constitute the majority of the Population of Muscat in Oman . There are other non Arabian communities that include the Baluchis from the Makran coast of Iran and Pakistan. Due to the maritime activities of the Arabs a large number of East Africans were brought as slaves during the Persian rule. They were the Habshis or the slaves who plays a significant role in the National Defence Force.

The Population of Muscat also includes the ethnic Zanzibari Omanis who constitutes the Omani Police Service. A large number of people belonging to India also forms the populace and reflects close trading ties with the Indian subcontinent. The richest private group in Oman is constituted by the Khoja group which basically belongs to India. The Shihu of northern Musandum Peninsula has a good figure in Muscat who speaks Arabic and Farsi or the Persian language and is mainly engaged in fishing and herding.

The Population of Muscat includes a large number of immigrants from India, Sri Lanka Bangladesh, Pakistan, Philippines who have been obligingly allowed to settle to help in developing the infrastructure and contribute to the growth of its economy. However the government is trying to indigenize the labor force to check immigration which has resulted in a rapid growth of population.
