Though considered as a desert country, the Parks and Gardens in Oman leaves the first time visitor astounded with its lush gardens, and elaborate flower beds lining the highways and lanes. The Parks do not have an entry fee and have drink and snack shops. The Riyam Park in Oman comprises one of the many Parks and Gardens in Oman as well as Muscat. There are other major parks such as the Qurum Natural Park, Riyam and Al Naseem. The parks do very well because of the Muscat Municipality's eagerness to plant trees in the parks and gardens and increase the green area. Riyam Park looks over the sea and has a terraced design and covers a total area of a hundred thousand square meters. The Park has a style between architectural and natural. There are children games, playgrounds and wide green areas. The Riyam Park in Oman is located in Muttrah and offers many services to the visitors. It is a favorite park with children. It is a huge, sprawling Park and the main feature is an enormous incense burner from where there are breathtaking views of the harbor and sea cliffs. A fairground is also open from 4 pm daily for the merriment of the young. Apart from the Riyam Park in Oman , there are many more good parks and gardens in Oman. These are The Qurum Natural Park which was opened in 1993 covering an area of a hundred and seventy thousand square meters area, the largest in Oman. The Park has a big boating lake and fountain known as the 'Waterfall Hill' and also the Sultan Qaboos' Rose Garden. The Al Naseem Public Park is the first park to be established in Oman and inaugurated during the celebrations of the 15th National Day in1985. The park is equipped with a children's park and a small train capable of carrying 70 passengers tours the whole area. There are playgrounds for football, volleyball and tennis as well as a library.
