Muscat is the capital of Oman and is perhaps the most cosmopolitan city that the country has. It is a very cosmopolitan city and it has emerged into a very important financial and trade center.

Muscat took over as the capital of Oman from Rustaq mainly during the end of the eighteenth century mainly due to the efforts of Hamid Bin Said and since then it has remained the capital of Oman unchallenged.

The city of Muscat in Oman is a wonderful blend of tradition with modernity and this blends a unique character to the city. The capital city is known for it health care establishments, hospitals, educational establishments, Mina Qaboos port, a world class airport and a broadcasting unit that consists of a television and a radio network.

The capital city also has a Stock market where trading in stocks and shares takes place and according to the latest census, nearly a third of the country's population is in Muscat.

Muscat today is protected by a stone moat which had replaced the walls which have acted as protection shields to this important city. However one can still see glimpses of those walls in some places mainly where the access gates are located.

The extended coastline of Oman would mean that there are quite a few good beaches in Muscat with the chief among them being Yeti,Qurum beach, and Bandar Al Jissah.

The place is also known for its gardens and parks which provide a perfect place for relaxation and rest.

A visit to Oman is not complete without a visit to the main market or Souq as this helps in really understanding the vibrancy of the place. It is best to avoid the evenings as it becomes too crowded but if that what you like then you should go only in the evening.

The Chief attraction of this place is the Muscat festival organized by the Muscat Municipality, which draws crowd from far and wide.
