These forts were built way back during the Portuguese regime and are at present used by the army of Muscat. Tourists are not easily allowed inside the forts but they can take pictures from outside.
Speaking about sightseeing in Muscat, another popular name that comes to everyone's mind is the Al Alam Royal Palace in Muscat. This is truly a unique piece of architecture in the city of Muscat. The palace is made of walls and columns that reflect the gurgling blue sea and the orange-streaked sky at sunset.
The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is another wonder of this beautiful city of Oman. It is the third largest mosque in the world and one of the finest works of architecture in the whole city. There are special days which are kept aside for the entry of the non-Muslims. It took a good nine years' time to build this mosque and was completed very recently in 2001.
The Watchtower in Muscat is one of the most attractive places to see in Muscat. You can have a view of the whole city from here. It resembles the shape of an incense burner and is situated close to the Kalbuh and Riyam Parks. Tourists, out for sightseeing in Muscat prefer to climb up this watchtower during the cooler times so that they get less exhausted.
Dolphin Boat Trips are also very popular among the tourists. There are numerous dolphins in the Gulf of Oman. These dolphins are a pleasure to watch, splashing at the waters out here.
