Chinese New Year
People of Chinese origin make almost 11% of the total population in Thailand. Thus Chinese New Year celebration is one of the biggest events in Thailand, more so in Pattaya. Pattaya that is home to many international communities celebrates the Chinese New Year with great fanfare. Held at important places at Pattaya like Jomtien beachfront, Pattaya beachfront, Pattaya Pier, Bali Hai Cape and many other places, Chinese New Year is awaited eagerly by all.

Traditionally families meet, exchange gifts and host dinners with extravagant meals. Pattaya New Year celebrations include procession on the streets of Pattaya, people performing lion and dragon dances, bursting firecrackers and exhibiting spectacular fireworks. The event includes a Miss Pattaya Beauty Pageant and displays events of historical and cultural importance. The streets of Pattaya are lined up with food stalls selling authentic local and well as Chinese dishes. Drinks are also served. Held between the months of January and February, the event welcomes spring and thus people settle old debts and gift their children money in folded red envelops and guide them for a good start. Traditional cultural programs are held. Kung Fu the martial arts of China is demonstrated, while respects are paid to King Taksin the Great by performing rituals at the Pattaya City Municipal Office.
