If you are interested to see a real, authentic village model, then you must visit
the Tam-Awan Village in Baguio, Philippines. Located at Pinsao Proper in
North West Baguio, Tam Awan Village is home to many works of art and various artists.
The village feature include accommodations in authentic Ifugao huts, conferences,
seminars, and workshops, crafts and souvenir shop, eco-tours and cultural shows.
In the Tam-awan Village you will find the replica of traditional Ifugao huts which are originally to be seen in the Cordilleras. Tam-awan is also a residential community for quite a few Baguio-based artists, and it is a popular gathering place for the arts circle of Baguio. The Tam-Awan Village is owned by the Chanum Foundation, an organization set up in 1996. Tam-Awan Village started with some land and an Ifugao hut and was originally put up to serve as a hang-out for local artists. However, later, more huts were sold to the Tam-awan group. This is how the present Tam-Awan Village was born. Tam-Awan Village includes some galleries which features a continuous series of exhibits. A new exhibit is opened usually around the second week of every month and lasts for exactly four weeks. You will get a coffee shop and a craft store displaying various local artists made materials. Tam-awan holds quite a few workshops every year for different groups of street children, students, etc. Drawing and painting, batik art, solar drawing, bamboo crafts, indigenous musical instruments, arnis, and traditional dance training is given here. Tam-awan also holds an annual art festival during the city's Panagbenga (annual flower festival). How to reach: Through the Bokawkan Road reach Ferguson Road and then turn right to Tacay Road which is an uphill climb. Upon reaching the top of the hill, take a right turn and this road will bring you to Tam-Awan Village.
