Rizal Park Baguio city

Philippines - Cebu - Boracay - Baguio - Manila
Between the very popular Burnham Park and the City Hall of Baguio there is a rectangular piece of city property known as the Rizal Park. Dr. Jose P. Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines is the person after whom the park has been named. There are numerous other parks that are found in and around the cities and towns all over the Philippines which are also named in his honor. The annual celebration honoring Dr. Jose P. Rizal is held on 30th of December in this Rizal Park itself.

The city of Baguio in the Republic of the Philippines is the best of the islands of Philippines. Philippines is a tropical country with fascinating landscapes, active volcanoes, splendid beaches, coral waters and tropical forests. In the hot summer months of March, April and May, Baguio lives up to its title as the “Summer Capital of the Philippines” when thousands of visitors from the lowlands and Manila take their annual exodus to the city to cool off.

Dr. Jose P. Rizal is said to be one of the greatest Filipinos ever born. It was Dr. Rizal’s brilliance and dedication to his country served as inspiration for the Filipinos to fight for their independence, when Philippines was under the Spanish rule. Dr. Jose P. Rizal whole heartedly believed in the potential of the Filipinos, and he lived a life that proved this.

Dr. Rizal wrote a book called "Noli Me Tangere" where he depicted the humiliating condition under which the Filipinos were living under the oppressive Spanish rule. His books were banned by the Spanish friars in the country at that time since it sought to expose their corruption and greed. Rizal’s second novel was the "El Filibusterismo" which was the sequel to his first book and where he clarified his political ideas. So while on a tour to Baguio, a short visit to the Rizal Park is a must.
