During the months of April and May, it is the time of the north-east monsoon or the “amihan” in the Boracay Island. These are the summer months of the island. A warm weather accompanied with strong winds makes this island a perfect place to be in during this time. Both local people and the tourists like staying in the cool waters during this time. They enjoy basking in the sun and enjoying various water sports like swimming, diving or snorkeling. This is the vacation time for the students too. The warm sandy white beaches thrive with life and activity and it during this time that various beach events are also organized. The Nestea Beach Volleyball, Boracay is one of the most famous events during this time. The Nestea Beach Volleyball, Boracay takes place in the last week of April and continues till the beginning of May. But the hunt for the participants starts from mid-March itself. Around 75 teams from 45 different colleges and universities take part in the biggest summer event of the island. This beach volleyball game is sponsored and hosted by Nestea (Nestlé). Over the years, this big competition has continuously featured the talented athletes of the country. In the year 2006, the Nestea Beach Volleyball, Boracay completed its tenth year. The Nestea Beach Volleyball, Boracay showcases grander activities and heart-stopping beach volley action. They are usually held in Manila and Boracay. Apart from the beach volleyball game, there are also several other lighter events. There are parties, concerts and fashion shows all throughout the event which makes this a remarkable and memorable event in Boracay. The event of the Nestea Beach Volleyball, Boracay reaches its climax of excitement in the end during the semi-final and championship rounds. A lot of clapping and cheering keep the whole island warmer than the white sands… Almost 500,000 pesos are kept for the prizes at different levels of the event. Prizes also include trophies and various sports equipments. The time following the end of the event seems all quiet and deserted in the Boracay Island…people fondly wait for the next year’s Nestea Beach Volleyball, Boracay with intense eagerness…
