Sinulog Festival Cebu

Sinulog is the oldest festival of Cebu and it is observed on the third Sunday of the month of January. The word Sinulog is derived from the word 'sulog', meaning ' like water current movement'. This festival is celebrated with much pomp and vigor and it is observed to worship Santa Nino or child Jesus (the patron Saint of the province of Cebu). The main highlight of this festival is the parade and you can't just take your eyes off the colorful costumes that the people wear in the parade. On this day the streets get overcrowded as everyone wants to catch a glimpse of this parade.

The dance is the chief feature of this parade. The participants of the parade entertain the crowd by dancing to the rhythm of the music produced by the trumpets, drums and the gongs. If you wish to try this traditional dance at home, then you need to move two steps forward and then it should be followed by one step backward. This dance actually establishes a link between the old and the modern Cebu, in the sense that it builds a connection between the pagan past of Cebu and the present Cehu, which is stopped in Christianity.
