Geography of Cebu

Philippines - Cebu - Boracay - Baguio - Manila
The Fareast island country of Philippines has Cebu as its main island. Cebu province is comprised of not only the Cebu Island, but nearby smaller islands are also parts of Cebu province. The geography of Cebu is very interesting. The island has a total area of 4,422 square km. The highest point of elevation in Cebu is at one thousand and thirteen meters (Mt. Manuggal). Philippines falls in the volcanic zone, Cebu has the major characteristics of a volcanic island. Cebu city which is the provincial capital follows Roman Catholicism. From the geography of Cebu, we find that this island lies to the east of Negros Island, its eastern neighbor is Leyte and in the southeast is Bohol province of Philippines. The island is more or less surrounded by Straits of Cebu on both sides.

Cebu is actually pretty long but quite narrow and has Mactan Island, Bantayan, Daanbantayan, Malapascua, Olango and Camotes Islands. The island is extremely urbanized with four big cities, 20 municipalities and the languages spoken are Cebuano, Porohanon, Bantayan, Visayan, English and Spanish. The beauty of the island can not be compared to any of the smaller islands, the thin coastlines, limestone plateaus, coastal plains all unmistakably pronounce Cebu to be a tropical island. The soft rolling hills and the craggy mountains add to this island's geographical diversity
