The Teatro Junquera Cebu

The Teatro Junquera was built by Inocencio Junquera, the political as well as the civil governor of Cebu. The construction of this theatre got complete in the year 1895. However this theater was formally inaugurated on 19th April, in the year 1896.On 16th December, in the year 1985 a Spanish play was performed at this theater /playhouse in order to recognize the effort of Junquera and also to honor him.

Pedro Royer, a director and a businessman at a much later period bought this theater. From the hands of Pedro Royer, this theater got passed in to the hands of Leopold Falek Pedro Rivera-Mir and Jose Vila. The space where the original theater belonged is now owned by the family members of the Jose Avila. During the time when this theater was owned by Jose Avila, the name of the theater, which actually was Teatro Junquera got replaced by the name Teatro Cine Oriente. If now, you ask the locals about the Teatro Cine Oriente, then you would get informed about the fact that the Teatro Cine Oriente is now referred to as the Cine Oriente.
