Cebu is one of the larger islands comprising Philippines. It has several sightseeing areas which are becoming more popular day by day. One such area which must be visited if you are holidaying in Cebu is Colon Street. It is the oldest street in Philippines. Colon Street is in the downtown area of Cebu City. Another name for this street is Parian District. Colon Street was built by the Spaniards during the time of Miguel Lopez de Legaspi. The name of the street came from Christopher Columbus, it has several cinemas, theaters, restaurants, department stores, and other business and commercial establishments. Colon Street does not don a very old if you leave aside the cobblestones, tile roofed buildings and capiz shell windows. It has a very important landmark, the National Historical Institute. Colon Street is now famous for several offices and other commercial establishments. Horse-drawn calesas have been replaced by jeepneys, taxis and buses that ply all day. Mabini Street, just off Colon Street leads straight to the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral area. This area can be labeled as a heritage trail, and therefore without a visit or spending some time in this street will rob you of several pleasurable moments.
