Baclaran Church

Philippines - Cebu - Boracay - Baguio - Manila
Baclaran Church in Manila is popular for the picture of the Mother Mary (Mother of Perpetual Help) brought to Philippines in 1906. The church is a Roman Catholic Church and comes under the vicariate of the parish of Santa Rita de Cascia in the Diocese of Paranaque. The services in the church began in 1948 and then the number of those who attended was few. But before the end of 1949 there were eight different services to accommodate the crowd.

The increasing number of followers made way for a spacious church in 1958. The shrine since then has not been closed and has been open to all the devotees. The Baclaran Church of Manila has a capacity of 2,000 people and apart from this 9,00 can stand and witness the proceedings.

The number of devotees who gather at the Baclaran Church on Wednesdays is around 1,20,000 who come to pray the Novena. In this church the confessions are heard everyday and people throng all day long.

The feast of the Mother of Perpetual Help is celebrated on June 27th every year. The Manila Baclaran Church is a seven-story structure with a vaulted ceiling and hundreds of pews. It is one of the most widely known churches in Manila and draws crowds from far and wide of the city and also the world.

There are stalls outside the Baclaran Church that sell candles, rosaries, novenas, replicas of the icon and food for the hungry. Especially on Tuesdays and Wednesdays the Church is overcrowded where one can see people praying, confessing, lighting candles or just trying to sit on the lap of the church so popular.
