Eng Wah Cinemas
Founded in the 1940s by Mr Goh Eng Wah, the Eng Wah Cinemas was located in the popular Happy World playground. It started the business with many partners like the Happy Theatre and the popular Victory Theatre. The Eng Wah Group is one of the first cinema operators to be listed on the Stock Exchange of Singapore.
The popularity of the Eng Wah Group rose during the post-war era when Chinese blockbusters, well known classics and other exciting movies were shown on massive screens brought from Hong Kong and Taiwan.
The Eng Wah Group changed the concept of watching movies and introduced other exciting activities like games, dining and shopping to make a movie—goers experience more thrilling. The quality of picture and sound as well was revised and altered. This organization was the world's first to launch the 2000 lines resolution digital cinema.
The Eng Wah Cinemas, Singapore includes cineplexes in West Mall, Suntec City, Toa Payoh, Entertainment Centre, Jubilee, Sun Plaza and Eng Wah Clementi. The strategic locations of the Eng Wah Cinemas, Singapore has enhanced the business of the Eng Wah Group in Singapore.
In December 2005, the Eng Wah Cinemas, Singapore introduced the world renowned Crazy Horse Paris Stage Show which was located in Clark Quay. This theatre had a seating capacity of 400 guests.
